This is a series of posts I will provide solutions for portal outage due to various reasons. This post will describe one of them.
If you have any portal outage situation, this is the right place to look into it.
In this post I will be describing an issue which we have faced recently. One of the site in the portal is giving the below error as
"HTTP 404 . The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that is spelled correctly".
We have followed below steps to resolve the issue.
1. Logged into all WFE servers and checked the site is running or stopped from the IIS console.
2. We observed that the IIS Management console - site was stopped in one of WFE server.
3. We try to start the site but it is giving below error.
"This website cannot be started. Another website may be running with the same port".
The above error says incorrect IP address were binded to the site.
We have modified the IP address on the binding section on that web site, it started working fine.
