Item could not be indexed successfully because one or more of the index components was in bad state


Troubleshooting search issue:

When I try to search for the items from my SharePoint search center I got no results from the search center. So i decided to debug the issue. Opened the search administration page by selecting central administration screen-->managed service application under Application management -->search service application from the list of service applications.

From the SharePoint search administration screen, select the content sources. Select one of the content source and click on view crawl log.

From the summary click on the errors shows against the content source. It Will show the below error

"Item could not be indexed successfully because one or more of the index components was in bad state"

To see the details errors that are happening while crawl, click on count number here it is 72.

The complete description of the error is

"Item could not be indexed successfully because one or more of the index components was in a bad state (Failed to create an indexer; Aborting insert of item in Link Database because it was not inserted into the search index;)

Then I observe search application Topology, where index partition status showing as an error.

Resolution:

Index Reset

To resolve the above issue we have to reset the content of Index server, i selected Index reset from the Search Administration screen  and clicked on the Index reset option it will open below Figure: Search Service Application: Index reset. Click on Reset Now.

It will reset all the content and rebuild the required index partition .

Once you complete that we have run the full crawl for all content sources.

Once the all full crawls got completed without any errors, now if you check the Search Application Topology, it will show Index partition as successful.

Conclusion:

To resolve the issue

"Item could not be indexed successfully because one or more of the index components was in bad state "

You have to do two steps below:

1. Index Reset.

2. Run the Full Crawl for all content sources in your SharePoint search center.
